My Happy Minds

We are proud to be a part of the myHappymind Family! As a whole school programme grounded in science and dedicated to building positive mental wellbeing, myHappymind helps children understand how their brains work and creates a culture that helps to build children's resilience, confidence, and self-esteem. myHappymind also teaches the children how to self-regulate and manage their emotions in stressful times, allowing them to be their very best selves!

Impact
As a school, we decided not to remove our PSHE teaching straight away. We’ve been able to continue delivering our PSHE curriculum alongside My Happy Minds. The teacher lead and a governor met with a group of children during a governor walk to hear about their experiences.
Four children were invited to take part in a pupil discussion about their PSHE learning, and the feedback was extremely positive. They worked well together, taking turns, listening to one another, and building on each other’s ideas. They were confident using the terminology recently introduced through My Happy Minds, and they were able to explain what it meant and how it links to their everyday lives.
Pupil voice
“My Happy Mind? I like it 100%. Ten out of ten because it’s fun, nice to chill and do.”
“It’s important to learn about our brain and what it does.”
“The best thing is happy breathing and the facts.”
The children also explained that they regularly use happy breathing, write or draw in their journals about their worries, and answer curious questions as part of their learning.
A lovely example of the impact came during a writing intervention. Some children were feeling frustrated about having to edit their work and correct spellings, as they felt they kept getting things wrong. Another child reminded them that you need to practise something nine times and write it 27 times for it to really stick in your mind so your brain can grow stronger. At the time, he couldn’t remember the word neuroplasticity—but he does now!
